CHAPTER-5
DCE LIBRARY: AN OVERVIEW
5.1 INTRODUCTION
          Dronacharya College of Engineering (DCE) is a premier institute was established in 2006, is approved by All India Council for Technical Education, Min. of HRD, Govt. of India and is affiliated to Uttar-Pradesh Technical, University (UPTU). The institute is providing dynamic learning environment in response to the changing needs of the society.  The institute aims at developing a center for excellence in Management and Information Technology; thrust areas of education, training, research and consultancy.    The Institute is housed in Ultra Modern Spacious Building of about 50,000 Sq ft in the Heart of Greater Noida (NCR). It is very well connected with Railways, Metro Railway & Mass Rapid Transport System at AIIMS, Madhuban Chowk, Rohini, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, etc.
The institute is conducting Full Time B-Tech, MBA, and MCA Programme. The Institute is ISO 9001:2000 certified in recognition of its well-established systems, procedures and for imparting quality education. The Institute has state of the art infrastructure comprising Air-conditioned Computer Centre, Library, Auditorium, and Seminar Halls. The classrooms are well equipped with OHPs, LCD, and White Boards etc. Teaching faculty of par excellence has gained popularity & prominence and made DCE as one of the leading institutes of NCR. The Institute is committed to groom the students' talent and skill and to mould them into the future successful managers of the Business World to face multi-faceted challenges and to deliver even under the most adverse conditions.
The Institute is fully aware that by laying emphasis only on formal studies, the students may not be able to develop an all round personality. Therefore, they are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities such as sports and cultural activities, outdoor adventure trips, industry visits etc. Besides this, courses on personality development and lectures by eminent scholars in various fields are organized from time to time. Students are also encouraged to undertake independent research and project work to develop confidence and meet challenges. The Institute is fully confident that with an excellent management and IT teaching programme coupled with courses designed to bring about the overall development of the students, our students will surely prove to be the leaders of tomorrow in the corporate world.
The Institute Campus also entails the excellent amenities and host of other facilities including Potable chilled drinking water through R.O. System available 24 hrs. Medical Room, Reprography Centre, Cafeteria, Health Club & Meditation Centre, Indoor Games, Students Common Rooms, Badminton Court, Volley Ball Court and Parking Facilities.
5.2 FACILITIES

In today’s world an elevated, exemplary and ideal academic environment is of foremost importance for any Institute and it becomes all the more important in case it is an institute imparting teaching and training in professional courses. Dronacharya College of Engineering has an enviable infrastructure. A historic look emanates from the state-of-art building having spacious class rooms with LCD Projectors and well equipped labs fitted with OHPs. An excellent Internet facility 512 KBPS by Primus adds a new dimension to it.
5.2.1 TRANSPORT

5.2.4 CANTEEN
The college has a beautifully constructed canteen which provides good quality hygenic food, snacks, juices, soft drinks etc. at reasonable prices.


5.3 COLLEGE LIBRARY
          DCE institute Library established in 2006. The DCE Library is spread over 2800 sq. ft of area and provides stimulation to young minds.  Library follow the open access system and reading room remained open to all students through out the year from 8.30 a. m to 5.30 p.m.  Library is divided in to Four Sections: - Circulation, Reference, Reading Section, E-Resource Section. Library has the membership of DELNET and British Council Library.
5.3.1 MISSION OF COLLEGE LIBRARY
The mission of the Library is to promote the ability to seek, evaluate, and employ Library resources in the full exercise of freedom of inquiry, which is an integral part of the education of students. To this end, the Library develops collections which uphold the learning and teaching objectives of a strong institution; organizes and provides both intellectual and physical access to materials; and guides members of our academic community toward a grasp of bibliographic and technical skills which facilitate use of the collections at hand and information resources worldwide.
5.3.2 LIBRARY RULES
Library card will be issued to all the students by the Librarian. Students will show his/her admission receipt in the library to get his/her library membership form. Filled up form will be deposited with the Librarian within three days. Two color photographs should also be attached.
A student with a Membership Library Card is entitled to draw books from the Library and is personally responsible for the books so taken by him/her.
Personal belongings are not allowed and may be kept at the counter provided at the entrance of the Library.
Strict discipline and complete silence has to be observed in the Library.
Use of mobile is strictly prohibited inside the Library.
5.4 NOTICE BOARD
Students are advised to take note of all notices displayed on the Notice Board for information and compliance. Failure to read the notices displayed will not be accepted as an excuse for its non-compliance. Students must also visit the college web-site, www.dronacharya.info, from time to time and take note of all the information and circulars.

Table 5.4 shows that the library of DCE institute has 10,557 books and 2175 reference books collection and 4500 titles of the books.  The institute subscribes 70 Indian and 12 foreign journals in the library.  There are 6060 back volumes and 49 dissertations in the library.  Library has 1080 Projects reports with different subjects and topic, Library has two Maps/ Atlases one of India and other one of world.  Patents and standards are not available in this library.

Table 5.5 shows the status of audiovisual material available in the library.  Library has 755 CDs and 11 video films.   E-books, E-journals and online /offline database are not with library.

It has a Stack Hall in two tiers and separate reading hall with 100 seats for students.  There is a separate reading hall for teachers with 35 seats.  The number of seats is sufficient to meet the Library’s requirement.

The DCE library is fully equipped with the professional personnel’s.  Library has well educated Librarian, Assistant Librarian and staff at other positions also.  Different duties and responsibilities are assigned to these staff members in accordance with their designation and qualifications.

In year- 2006-07, DCE Library spend Rs. 3,00000 for acquiring books Rs. 48,000 for Journals Rs. 50,000 on Hardware/ Software and 30,000 on computer maintenance.
In year- 2007-08, DCE Library spend Rs. 300,000 for acquiring books Rs. 50,000 for Journals Rs. 50,000 on Hardware/ Software and 36,000 on computer maintenance.
In year- 2008-09, DCE Library spend Rs. 200,000 for acquiring books Rs. 50,000 for Journals Rs. 50,000 on Hardware/ Software and 30,000 on computer maintenance.

5.10.1 Reference Service
In DCE Institute Library provide the reference service to meet the needs and requirements of students and teachers.  Professional assistant answers to specific quarries and provides information service.



5.10.2 Reservation of Books
DCE library provide book reservation service to its users.  Books has been reserved on demand according to priority, reserved books are kept separately in the issue counter for three days for each user.
5.10.3 Inter Library Loan
A system by which material such as books or articles may be obtained from another library. Loans usually take about 1-2 weeks to complete.   
5.10.4 Photocopy services
Library also provides the photocopying services to its users. Photocopy machine has been kept in the Library.  The charge of photocopying is 50 p. per page.
5.10.5 Book bank facility
DCE library does not provide book bank facility. 
5.10.6 Cataloguing
DCE library has a both computerized as well as cards catalog.  Library used for the recording of periodicals two system (1) Three card system (2) register system.
5.10.7 Technical section
Library uses DDC 19th Ed. for classification and AACR-II for cataloging.
5.10.8 Newspaper clipping service
Library also provides Newspapers clipping service for its users.
5.10.9 CAS and SDI
Library provides CAS and SDI service for its users.

The library remains open all the week days except Sunday and gazetted holidays.  Library is 8.00 am to 8.00 pm on weekdays. Library remains open during the lunchtime.

DCE library has seven PCs with a multimedia kit.  All in house databases are loaded in all the PCs.  Library hardware infrastructure is sufficient to meet the library requirement effectively. Library has One (HP Laser Jet) printer, One scanner (HP Laser jet), 7 UPS attached with CPU one hours backup in UPS, and 7 CD drive (CD writer), one barcode printer, one server located at the library, all the system is on the LAN.

5.14 LIBRARY AUTOMATION
Library has recently installed E-Granthalaya Library software which is designed and developed by NIC. The database is under processing newly installed software. The following modules are included in the software.


5.14.1 E-Granthalaya an Introduction
          The Library operation and services are fully computerized with “e- Granthalaya” multi-user Integrated Library Automation Software, developed by National Informatics Centre, New Delhi and a Bar Code based circulation system is in use. The Library is equipped with more than10,557 books from different streams. Besides these text and reference books Library is also subscribing a large number of national and international journals, magazines and dailies. Bibliographic records of Library holdings can be, accessed through the e- Granthalaya’s On Line Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).

Internet services are provide free of charge to the library users. Library provides the services of OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), Web Browsers access and CD-Rom database search to its users.

5.18 MEMBERSHIP LIBRARY NETWORK
The college is an institutional member of British Council Division Library, New Delhi and American Information Resource Centre, New Delhi. Our students can avail Library and Information Services of these centers for their specialized information needs, where in they can get a very large volume of books & periodicals along with audio-video, digital and online information resources.
College library has taken the membership of INDEST-AICTE Consortium for the subscription of online electronic resources. Under the membership library has subscribed for IEL on Line & ASME on Line.

Library is also an institutional member of Developing Library Network (DELNET). Besides providing on line access to various DELNET databases DELNET is also providing a very good DELNET Loan And Document Delivery Services to our Faculty & students.

5.19 NETWORKING
DCE Library is a part of Institute networking; LAN (local area networking) with to nodes and a powerful server has recently been plotted for library users.  Presently the LAN is operated from student’s computer lab.  The library databases are made available through the LAN to all library users.  Besides these facilities the library also has dial up Internet access.
